Look Good Feel Better

When I was asked by Mom Central to be a part of the Look Good Feel Better blog tour, I was honored. I have a huge place in my heart for people and organizations that make a difference in our World. I have been blessed by wonderful people and organizations in my life and have always vowed to give back whenever and wherever I can.

Look Good... Feel Better is a free, non-medical, brand-neutral, national public service program created to help individuals with cancer look good, improve their self-esteem, and manage their treatment and recovery with greater confidence. The program was developed in 1989 by the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, a charitable organization established by the Personal Care Products Council — actually began with one patient in 1987. Look Good... Feel Better is now celebrating their 20 year anniversary.

The group program is open to all women living with cancer who are undergoing radiation, chemotherapy or other forms of treatments. In the United States alone, 650,000 women have participated in the program. Group programs consist of a two-hour, hands-on workshop with a Look Good…Feel Better volunteer beauty professional which includes a 12-step skin care/make-up application lesson, demonstration of options for dealing with hair loss, including wigs, scarves and accessories, and nail care techniques. Attendees also use and take home complimentary cosmetic kits in their appropriate skin tones (light, medium, dark, extra dark) with a helpful instruction booklet.

Look Good... Feel Better is reaching out to program graduates and cancer survivors to share their stories of hope, courage, and determination for the “Women of Hope is Beautiful” campaign. The “Women of Hope is Beautiful” are women with firsthand Look Good…Feel Better experience who can demonstrate the emotional and physical transformation that the program offers.

Five women will be selected as the “Women of Hope is Beautiful.” They will be featured on the Look Good…Feel Better website, and will win a trip to the Dream Ball at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York on September 24, 2009 as well as receive a professional makeover. See contest rules HERE.
