The Bible In Rhyme - Giveaway

From students to teachers, farmers to preachers and Facebook fans to modern moms, people can experience the Bible in a way they never imagined - as rhyming poetry. The Bible In Rhyme is a book-by-book, chapter-by-chapter retelling of Christianity's Holy Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, all in rhyme. It brings the word of God to individuals and families in a way that is enjoyable and easy to remember. Readers can share the cornerstone of faith in quiet reflection or out loud with friends and family.

Minor Press Planet (the book's publisher) sent me a copy because I was completely fascinated by this idea and had to check it out for myself. The author, Kyle Holt, said the idea originated while he was laying in bed. "I started thinking about turning the Bible into a rhythmic rhyming poem or a song, and the idea wouldn't go away," he said. This went on for a year while he kept telling himself that it was too much work and he wouldn't have the time. Finally, in the middle of the night in April of 2006, he got out of bed and went to his computer to prove to himself (and to God, whether he knew it at the time or not) that the project was too hard and he couldn't do it. He is not a pastor, a professor, or prophet.

Genesis 1 flowed out so easily and quickly (the version you read in the book is almost identical to the one he wrote that night), and he thought "Oh no. Now I have to do this."

One and a half years later, he had translated the entire Bible into rhyme and it was ready to go into editing for another year and a half. Kyle says he did jump around in writing it. "Going straight through was too much of a strain, and I found that when I tried to do that, I would get burned out faster. I always have found it is easier to read the Bible when I jump around, so I encourage people to jump around when reading the Bible and The Bible In Rhyme."

Writing poetry and songs throughout high school and college contributed strongly to his work - especially the rhythm and musicality from song writing. In fast, Kyle turned 1 Corinthians 13 into a song for his brother's wedding last year! I encourage you to learn more about Kyle and everything going on with The Bible In Rhyme on his blog, The New Parables. On his blog, he answers to both praise and criticism (like being called an apostate).

This rhyming Bible is sure to engage a new audience who might not otherwise read the Bible. It would certainly make a unique Christmas gift for any believer or non-believer. It can be used as a resource for Bible study and as a source of inspiration.

Kyle Holt and Minor Press Planet were super generous in offering a signed copy of The Bible In Rhyme to a lucky Homemaker Hero reader!

I read through a few of TNP posts. Amazing what people do, such as the burning of all Christian books, music etc. if it's not KJV. Seriously?

The video his church did on giving was amazing!

I think that what is most interesting on The New Parables Blog is that you can see how the author is developing since his book release. You said that he wasn't a pastor, etc. before this, but you can definitely see how his book is turning him into a kind of pastor whether he meant for it to happen or not. Oh, and of course I loved his post about making a 3-year plan because I like any kind of planning tool :)

The book burning is very disturbing. How sad. I'm speechless, I just don't understand the way people think at times.
